Lisa Molbert, BA, LAADC, ICADC, CADC-II, Executive Director
Lisa Molbert is a licensed addiction counselor with more than 22 years of experience in the treatment of substance-use and co-occurring disorders. She has worked in numerous capacities including Program Director, Director of Admissions, Outpatient and Residential Program Therapist, Compliance Manager, and Case Manager for various agencies around the Bay Area over the last 20 years. Lisa is also a Family Systems Interventionist who has been in business for over 12 years. Lisa specializes in relapse prevention and pain management, and is particularly good at assessment and evaluation of complex patients, meaning folks with addiction, mental health, chronic pain and addiction, and trauma. She gets very creative with the people she works with. She is a firm believer in collaboration with a treatment team and doing anything that is in the best interest of the people she serves. Lisa attended Chapman University, Louisiana State University, and Cal State East Bay. She has been lecturing to the Stanford Physicians’ Assistant Program on addiction and chronic pain for over 10 years, and has helped facilitate drop-in groups about addiction issues for Palo Alto Medical Foundation. Lisa has also lectured at Golden Gate University, and lectures at various law firms, schools, and for the American Pharmacists Association. Lisa is often cited as an expert in addiction, especially as it relates to assessment, pain management, anxiety disorders, healthcare compliance, and how to work with insurance to cover treatment. Some of her insurance recommendations have been published in two editions of a book called “Healthy Employees, Healthy Business” by Nolo Press. She also teaches agencies best practices with clinical documentation, and compliance for California State Licensing, CARF, and Joint Commission. Her passion is working with individuals and families and watch them heal and grow. She is in her own recovery, and understands first hand about addiction and mental health issues. She is in the process of writing a book about discharge planning, which she feels is a lost art. In her spare time, Lisa loves to cook and bake. She also loves hiking and dining out, and is an avid music listener and vinyl collector, and she also likes shoes, fashion, and art. She loves old houses, has a passion for factories and how things are made, old books, and vintage paper. She spends a lot of time outdoors with her dog, Zeus, and her friends, enjoying the San Francisco Bay Area and all it has to offer. She and Zeus live in Sausalito, CA.
Zeus, aka Zeusifer, is an Alaskan Malamute/Siberian Husky mix. He is the Assistant Executive Director at Stepping Stone. You will see him hanging out in the house, trying to get goodies from the chef, and being a furry therapist to the residents. He is a sweet, fluffy bull in the china shop, that loves everyone, loves to talk, and enjoys working and hanging out with his mom and the staff. People say that when they pet Zeus, they feel better!
Cynthia Miller, LMFT, PhD., CEO
Cynthia Miller has a passion for supporting women in recovery. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a PhD in Addiction Psychology. She knows from personal and professional experience the many facets of substance use disorders and recovery. Cynthia has worked in residential inpatient settings such as Serenity Knolls and Alta Mira Recovery Programs and currently maintains a private practice. She has seen the hope and joy recovery provides and has a deep understanding of how women’s issues in recovery are often more complex.
Cynthia has been a consistent supporter of Stepping Stone. She has served on the Board of Directors of Stepping Stone from 2009 – 2011 and helped to orchestrate the first (and not the last) Stepping Stone Golf Tournament at the Presidio Golf Club.
Personally, Cynthia is active in the 12-Step community, enjoys playing golf (especially with her husband Donald), Pilates and travel.
Terry Hennessy, Board President
Therese “Terry” Hennessy, was elected to the Board in 2015, served as Vice President in 2016 and as President in 2017. She also served as chair of the Anniversary Gala in 2016 and 2017.
Terry retired from several careers including Mayor and Town Council member of the Town of Tiburon; Director of Community Partnerships and Legislative Analyst.
A member of the recovery community for 38 years, she has supported Stepping Stone for more than 20 years.
Jennifer Heyneman Sousae, MFT, Board Secretary
Jennifer recently joined the Stepping Stone board in 2015. She has served as Executive Director of RHE Charitable Foundation since its inception in 2008. As a private-practice psychotherapist and past counselor for Swords to Plowshares’ veterans housing programs, Jennifer is witness to immense human resilience, and capacity for reconnection and recovery. Jennifer is fifth-generation Californian. She is a lifelong back-packer, has been a river-rafting guide and remains an enthusiastic student of the wilderness.
Cynthia joined the Board in October of 2017.
Cynthia is a successful realtor who represents residential and commercial clients in San Francisco, Sonoma and Napa.
Cynthia brings enthusiasm, dedication, and experience both personal and professional to the board. She is passionate about Stepping Stone and the mission to help women in recovery.
Sandy joined the Stepping Stone board in 2016. She is the Executive Director of the San Francisco Dry Dock, a facility that provides support to 12 step meetings in San Francisco. Sandy exudes warmth, wisdom, and a true volunteer spirit!
